This section announces upcoming training and meetings for the Santa Clara County Fire Chiefs Association's Hazardous Materials and Fire Prevention Subcommittees. For a list of past meetings, click here.

Hazardous Materials Subcommitte | Fire Prevention Subcommittee


The Hazardous Materials Subcommittee meets six times a year in the months listed below. The doors open at 8:30 a.m. and meetings begin promptly at 9:00. Hazardous Materials inspectors from each agency member of the Santa Clara County Fire Chiefs Association are expected to attend these training classes. Please be on time. Each agency will be responsible for identifying two or three training topics, for providing the speakers, and for providing refreshments for their scheduled meeting.

The Fire Prevention Subcommittee generally meets the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings begin at 10:00 a.m. and are open to all county agency Fire Prevention staff including deputies, inspectors, plan checkers, fire protection engineers, and other fire prevention personnel. For more information contact your Fire Marshal or use the 'contact us' link at the top of the page.

Time and Location: Meeting locations rotate monthly. Unless otherwise indicated below, all Fire Prevention Officers meetings start at 10:00 am. The Fire Marshal's meet in the same location from 8:30am to 10:00am. The host agency will provide refreshments.

Subject(s): 2007 California Fire Code Fundamentals

This is a one-day course that focuses on helping users that are familiar with the 2001 CFC adapt to the 2006 CFC. The information in this course details the differences between the two codes and covers concepts that are not in the 2001 CFC. Also, some of the codes in the UFC and CFC are the same, but located in different sections; this seminar covers this information as well. Students will receive an ICC certificate and CEUs. After completing this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the important differences between the 2006 CFC and the 2001 CFC;
  • Identify information that has not changed in the two codes, but has been relocated;
  • Identify and explain concepts that are in the 2006 CFC, but were absent from the 2001 CFC.

Subject(s): 2007 California Building Code Fundamentals - Nonstructural Fire & Life Safety Provisions

This is a two-day class that addresses the critical concepts of the CBC regarding nonstructural requirements. Provides a basis for the correct use of the code in building planning, fire-resistance-rated construction, fire protection systems and means of egress. Discusses issues that are the bases for many designs and plan review decisions.
Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Locate general topic (chapters) in the 2006 CBC;
  • Locate specific tables in the 2006 CBC for applicable situations;
  • Identify code requirements applicable to real world situations;
  • Discuss the intent behind a given code requirement;
  • Interpret requirements for a scenario as compliant or noncompliant.

**PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED** Cost: $120.00
