Union City Environmental Programs Division Union City CUPA Program Description
Union City CUPA

In 1983, the City of Union City adopted a Hazardous Materials Storage Ordinance and amended the Fire Code to implement the State's "community right-to-know" laws and the Underground Storage Tank Regulations. The goal of the ordinance and subsequent amendments is to protect people, businesses, structures, and the environment from the adverse effects of hazardous materials used and stored in Union City . The Union City Environmental Programs Division (UCEPD) of the City's Public Works Department has the responsibility for the City's Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) programs. Under authority granted by the state, the UCEPD administers the following programs:

  • Hazardous Materials Business Plan Program (CA Health & Safety Code, Chapter 6.95)
  • Hazardous Waste Program (CA Health & Safety Code, Chapter 6.5)
  • Underground Storage Tank Program (CA Health & Safety Code, Chapter 6.7)
  • Accidental Release Program (CA Health & Safety Code, Chapter 6.95)
  • Aboveground Storage Tanks (CA Health & Safety Code, Chapter 6.67)
  • Uniform Fire Code (UFC Section 8001.3.2-8001.3.3a)
  • Clean Water Program/Storm Water Pollution Prevention (Clean Water Code, Division 7-Water Quality)
