Hazardous Materials Division
The Santa Clara Fire Department Hazardous Materials Division provides a number of services to the citizens and businesses of Santa Clara, including:
- Conducting inspections of facilities where hazardous materials and wastes are used and/or stored
- Reviewing construction plans for facilities using hazardous materials
- Investigating exposures to or releases of hazardous materials
- Training emergency response personnel in hazardous materials incident response
- Consulting with businesses on how to safely store and use hazardous materials
- Responding to hazardous materials emergencies
The Santa Clara Fire Department Hazardous Materials Division is the Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) for the City of Santa Clara. As a CUPA, the Hazardous Materials Division is responsible for implementing the following programs:
- Hazardous Waste Generator Program (California Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.5)
- Hazardous Waste Tiered Permitting (California Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.5)
- Underground Storage Tank (California Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.7)
- Aboveground Storage Tank SPCC Plan (California Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.67)
- Hazardous Materials Business Plan (California Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.95)
- California Accidental Release Prevention Program (California Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.95)
